“First Light” was at Nevada Governor’s Mansion

Nevada’s State Animal is the Desert Bighorn Sheep and Mike Boyce loaned the Nevada Governor’s Mansion the “First Light” Double Bighorn Ram sculpture that features the World Record Bighorn Ram. The Desert Bighorn (or Nelson) Sheep (Ovis Canadensis nelsoni) is smaller than its Rocky Mountain cousin but has a wider spread of horns. The bighorn is well-suited for Nevada's mountainous desert country because it can survive for long periods without water. The large rams stand about 4 1/2 feet tall and can weigh as much as 450 lbs each (900 lbs together). See photos of “First Light” at the Governor's Mansion below. In the Spring of 2006, D'Andrea Golf Club purchased the "First Light" bronze sculpture and moved it to their club house.
