D'Andrea Golf Club's New Icon:

Tuesday, May 9, 2006 D'Andrea Golf Club began a new chapter for the "First Light" Rocky Mountain Bighorn Rams. D'Andrea Golf Club has adopted the double ram sculpture as their new logo and icon. The "First Light" sculpture is now highlighted atop a towering water fall in front of the D'Andrea Golf Clubhouse. You can see the double ram sculpture at D'Andrea at 2900 South D'Andrea Parkway off of Vista Parkway in Sparks, Nevada. Photo shows the magnificent bronze sculpture in its new home.

Monte Rosa Commission:

The Sculpture Gardens and Walking Paths at Monte Rosa is Mike’s latest commission. A local developer and big game enthusiast is developing an area along the Mount Rose Highway south of Reno that leads to the breath-taking Lake Tahoe area that will feature eleven of Mike Boyce’s life-size wildlife sculptures in the first phase. Phases two through four at the Monte Rosa development call for forty-six additional life-size wildlife sculptures to be completed and installed by 2010. Each of the commissioned sculptures will be released in a very limited edition. Photos of some of the sculptures featured are below.

Montreux Golf & Country Club Commission:

Michael J Boyce’s first major commission and installation occurred in the summers of 1999 and 2000 at the Montreux Golf and Country Club. The Home-Owners Association purchased over 20 Mule Deer Bucks and Does that are placed at the entry gates and along the walking paths throughout the Country Club and Golf Course. Photos of Mule Deer at Montreux are below.

“First Light” was at Nevada Governor’s Mansion:

Nevada’s State Animal is the Desert Bighorn Sheep and Mike Boyce loaned the Nevada Governor’s Mansion the “First Light” Double Bighorn Ram sculpture that features the World Record Bighorn Ram. The Desert Bighorn (or Nelson) Sheep (Ovis Canadensis nelsoni) is smaller than its Rocky Mountain cousin but has a wider spread of horns. The bighorn is well-suited for Nevada's mountainous desert country because it can survive for long periods without water. The large rams stand about 4 1/2 feet tall and can weigh as much as 450 lbs each (900 lbs together). See photos of “First Light” at the Governor's Mansion below. In the Spring of 2006, D'Andrea Golf Club purchased the "First Light" bronze sculpture and moved it to their club house.
